Kings Day in Amsterdam

28 march 2018

Once a year, the entire country transforms into an orange bubble. You’re probably wondering ‘’why?’’! Dutch people celebrate the birthday of the King and this year it’s his 51st birthday! Almost one million people will walk through the streets and party on the boats in the canals of Amsterdam. We share the best tips, from Kings Night to Kings Day!

Kings Night

Why wait until Friday? Start the party one day prior to the Kings birthday! Many parties take place in Amsterdam. Go to Koningsdag27april for an overview and choose your favourite party! Our tip: Café Nol. Here you can party like a real Amsterdam citizen!
Where? Westerstraat 109

Festivals

Each Dutchie celebrates this day, so there are many festivals you can visit. From techno to house and the best hits. Check Festival fans for every festival! Our tip: Kingsland. With several podiums, there is enough choice!

K
ings Day in the streets

Not feeling like buying a ticket? No problem! The party is everywhere throughout the city! Simply walk through the streets, pass the canals and go with the flow. Our tip: To party between the locals of Amsterdam and get the real feeling of an Amsterdam citizen, you should go to The Jorndaan. The Jordaan is most popular and the people and music on the streets bring an amazing vibe!

Kings Day with the kids

Kids show their talent and sell their products at the ARTIS Zoo. Make sure you are an early bird, because it starts at 9.00 AM!
Where? Plantage Kerklaan 38-40

Flea markets

During Kings Day you will find flea markets throughout Amsterdam. Locals find the perfect spot in the early mornings to sell their second-hand clothes, decorations and many more. This doesn’t only happens in Amsterdam, but everywhere in the Netherlands… With all flea markets together, it’s one of the biggest flea markets of the world!
The biggest and most populair locations? Vondelpark, Museumplein and Rembrandtplein

Party in the evening

Do you have some energy left? Visit one of the many after parties. DJ Guide listed them all!

PS. Don’t forget to try an orange tompouce! They are delicious and a typical Dutch bite at Kingsday.

Good to know!
There are less trains going to Amsterdam than usual and there are not trams and busses in the city centre. Always check GVB before you visit Amsterdam during Kings Day or ask the reception at our hotels!
